“I think kids want the same thing from a book that adults want— a fast-paced story, characters worth caring about, humor, surprises, and mystery.” - Rick Riordan

Rick Riordan (Ryer'-dan), an author of more than ten number one bestsellers and a father of two, the creator of Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus and the Kane Chronicles. But neither Ms. Ziegler nor all those other elementary teachers imagined Ricky Riordan the straight B student for writing would become this famous.

Before Mr. Riordan became a full-time writer, he taught in New Braunfels, Texas. But his life changed when his son Haley wanted to hear a bedtime story about Greek Mythology, Rick Riordan started telling about a kid named Percy Jackson and how he retrieved the lightning bolt for Zeus and slowly the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series was born. With the support of his children, he finished the series of Percy Jackson. This series is not just about mythology and history, his daily life influenced this Greek story as well, for example the idea of Camp Half-Blood came from the days of Rick being a music director in a camp called Camp Casper in high school. And the reason that almost all Demigods have ADHD and dyslexia is that his son Haley has it and he wants to make all those kids with handicaps feel special.

After his success with the Percy Jackson series, Rick Riordan started another two series, The Kane Chronicles and the Heroes of Olympus, which started coming out in the late 2010. Like their predecessor, all of the two series are based on ancient mythology. Hero of Olympus is a story after Percy Jackson saved Mt. Olympus, where there is an addition of Roman Gods, "The big battle in The Last Olympian was in August and The Lost Hero happens in October. So only 2 or 3 months have gone by. I did that on purpose, because I wanted the characters from the Percy Jackson series to be involved and I didn’t want the readers to be wondering what’s going on with them. It was my way of letting them revisit that world in a fresh twist, but also to catch up with Percy and Annabeth and the rest of the gang from the first series..." Rick Riordan said on an interview with Wired. On the UK website for  the Kane Chronicles Rick Riordan quoted “When I was a classroom teacher, no unit of study was more popular with my students than Ancient Egypt. Pyramids, mummies, hieroglyphs, ancient curses and buried secrets - there is so much magic to discover. And if you thought the Greek gods were crazy, wait until you meet the gods of Egypt.”

Rick Riordan didn't just write the three series surrounding the idea of Gods, he also wrote adult books. Big Red Tequila, The Widow's Two-Step, The Last King of Texas, and many more. He also contributed in a series called The 39 Clues, but he only wrote the first book, The Maze of Bones, starting off the ten book series telling how Amy and Dan Cahill went on a great adventure around the world finding clues that leads to the great secret of the Cahill family; Rick Riordan will be also be writing the eleventh book of the ten + one book series of 39 clues called Vespers Rising.

As Rick Riordan write more and more books, mythology or not. Every single fan will support him. Although Rick Riordan is spending most of his time writing children's books, he might go back to writing adults books. "Right now the children’s books are keeping me very busy, but who knows? I may go back to the adult books at some point." Rick said on one of his interview online. Like what Riordan said. Like what Rick Riordan said, who knows, maybe someday he will stop writing children’s books and go back to the world of adult books.

Chinese New Year History...

Like all ancient countries, mythology plays a big part in the enjoying of it.
Long long time ago in China, there was a monster called Nian(年 - Year). Every year, the monster comes to the village and destroy it,by eating people, breaking buildings. One year when Nian saw a kid in a red shirt, and got scared away. Slowly the villagers found out that Nian is scared of red and big noise so ever since that year people started to wear red and use firecrackers every year.
